The BMW X3M/X4M intake setup, while awkward at first glance, is a very well designed system in the space available. The flow path from the filters to the turbo inlets is very direct and does not change direction as abruptly as typical OEM airbox designs. So instead of a complete redesign, we focused on improving the OEM airbox with less restrictive flow and improved temperature efficiency. We developed replacement non-woven mesh filters that have a much higher flow rate than the stock paper filters. To help reduce intake air temperatures and force air into the airbox, we designed large front scoops that sit behind the grilles. The carbon scoops channel air into the ducts and effectively de-restrict the inlet side of the airbox. The final piece is the carbon airbox cover which, while it doesn't add anything to the performance, allows for a more audible induction sound and gives the engine bay a much needed aesthetic upgrade.
