Filtration, airflow, and heat are the main considerations when designing a new air intake system for a turbocharged engine.

Our do88 air intake system was developed to provide the turbocharger with good filtration, improve airflow path, and maintain low intake temperatures. A design challenge for this B58 intake system is its location, right next to the exhaust manifold, which quickly leads to thermal saturation in that area of ​​the engine compartment.

High intake air temperatures are detrimental to engine performance, as the turbocharger would otherwise have to generate boost using hot, less dense air. That's why a completely sealed intake system is the only way to ensure that intake air temperatures (IATs) are kept to a minimum. To eliminate the hot air drawn into the air filter, we designed a heat shield and cover which, combined with rubber seals, ensure our system supplies the engine with cool air. Our intake system utilizes the OE fresh air duct that feeds cool air to the air filter.

As a replacement for the original plastic intake pipe, we designed a large 85 mm (3,3") die-bent aluminum tube that widens to 93 mm (3,7") at the turbo inlet pipe. We didn't cut any corners when designing the turbo inlet pipe; we specifically sought out the unusual 85 mm size to achieve the correct internal diameter for the MAF sensor. Many competitors sell kits with 89mm (3,5") inlet tubes, which are readily available. However, the danger with an 89mm tube is that the MAF reading will be inaccurate, resulting in a lean fuel mixture. It's not uncommon to get a CEL (Check Engine Light) with such a setup. Attached to our intake tube is a large, custom-made air filter. The filter is made of densely woven cotton gauze for superior filtration. The filter is, of course, washable and reusable for optimal performance and lifespan.

The original air filter and turbo inlet hoses are designed with features that minimize turbo and air induction noise. Specifically, the original intake pipe includes a large silencer to ensure quiet turbo operation. In contrast, our air intake system lacks these noise-reducing elements, allowing you to hear the turbo whistle and induction noise.

Key Features:

Large, custom-made 85mm (3,3") cotton air filter with a densely woven cotton gauze. The filter is supplied without filter oil, so we recommend applying cotton filter oil to increase air filtration if you drive your car in dusty environments. For example, you can use BMC filter oil with part number "WAFLU250".
Washable air filter for optimal performance and lifespan.
We recommend cleaning the air filter every 10,000 km using a universal cleaning product designed for cotton air filters. For example, you can use BMC cleaning fluid with part number "WADET500".
An 85mm (3,3") aluminum intake tube with the correct inner diameter for the MAF sensor. This will prevent the Check Engine Light (CEL) that many competing kits can cause.
